Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She created Feminist Frequency the site which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the director of operations. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. In addition, Sarkeesian highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online and for other groups that are left out. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social thought and politics at York University. She is also a highly-respected public speaker. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while still a student at the university. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop an online series which would explore how gender is represented in games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. It was not enough to deter her. In fact, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critique. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards in recognition of her many notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and founded Feminist Frequency. The educational non-profit explores the role of women in pop culture narratives.
